"Zoo Vet 2 Endangered Animals" Review

Kids like animals and video games. Bring them together and we get a computer game that parents can feel comfortable letting their child play. "Zoo Vet 2 Endangered Animals" puts the gamer on a team caring for wild animals at a zoo. Some animals only need you to pick the correct food, while others require a more thorough exam.

As a member of zoo team, you get your own office. On the office wall is a map of the zoo showing the animals that need care (food and quick treatment) and those animals who are need personal attention. Animals needing quick care give you a question (usually type of food to give them and then one about how to solve a medical problem) and a list of options.

Other medical cases aren't so easy. Animals need to examined by touching, running tests (using needle and pointing to area to biopsy for example), and looking for any signs that will need to a diagnosis. The cases require lots more thought and problem solving over the simpler cases. It's easy to miss a step if you do not follow along with the notes given by the computer.

First starting out it's not always easy to figure out what you should do next. The notes will give you the course of action if you do get confused or can always be ignored for a challenge. Perfectionists can replay cases to increase their score. The scoring is more of a personal challenge. A low score won't prevent you for moving forward to another case.

The game is as hard or as easy as you want it to be. It's not all that hard after a couple of cases and remembering the procedure for finding out problem. "Zoo Vet 2" is not a game for all ages. Preteens and younger kids are more likely to be entertained than adults. When I played I had my 7-year-old gamer sit and play with me. He commented that the choices and questions were the same after going through a couple animals that needed care. The in-depth cases he needed help with. I don't see kids much older than 11 or 12 finding much challenge. Kids, younger than 10, will enjoy playing as long as there is an adult to help. Otherwise it could turn into an exercise of frustration.

The extra puzzles/games and the watch for photo opportunities (blinking dots found while helping animals in their exhibits) help keep the interest alive beyond working through cases. The 7 year old I had play with me had fun for awhile seeing the different animals he had never heard of, answering the questions (before they got repetitive) and looking around the animal exhibits. "Zoo Vet 2" has plenty to do for the young aspiring vet.
